Since 1982 upon meeting my first Bedlington the breed has always held a special place in my heart. Early mentoring by Audrey Faibish (Krisdale Reg'd. Kennels) played a key role in setting priorities in breeding and showing. Since then numerous people have provided much needed influence and support including Jane Wilks (Oakenshield Perm. Reg'd. Kennels), Shirley Martin (Siwash Reg'd. kennels), Charlotte Harris (Tasseltyme Perm. Reg'd. Kennels), Bonnie Nelson (Bluenote Reg'd. Kennels), Lois D'Ambrosio (Chimneyhouse kennels), Sally Schill (Bluestar kennels), Lucy Heyman (Carillon kennels), Dess June (Dejeunne kennels), Ian and Margaret Phillips (Rathsrigg kennels), Alice Emsley (Hilldyke kennels) and the list goes on.
Showing began before breeding and my first forays with showing Bedlingtons came with Ch.Krisdale's Camelot CD in the early 1980's. Later came Ch.Oakenshield's Chico Alfonso and subsequently Ch.Oakenshield's Wesley kreig, Ch.Oakenshield's Beatrix Potter, Ch.Camerata Sofie Giselle, Am.Ch.Camerata Carnegie Rose (owned by the late Kay Halley) and Ch.Rathsrigg Solitaire the great import from England.
With the UK imports from the great Rathsrigg kennels of Ian and Margaret Phillips our dogs took on the distinct type we were after. Not being one for glamour in the show ring, I concentrated on a British type with great textured and coloured coats, deep and flat ribs and moderate angulation with substantial heads.
In recent years we have taken a slower approach to showing and breeding. However we will have two youngsters hitting the show ring soon! Oakenshield's Lawren Harris bred by Jane Wilks is a young bitch who's pedigree goes back to Camerata dogs and also to the lovely Rathsrigg Solitaire. In addition Lamz Trick Pony of Camerata bred by Gaby Gilbeau and Laurie Zembruzski is another young bitch that also has a pedigree which goes back to Camerata dogs through her lovely sire Ch.Lamz Viva Las Vegas and her grandsire Ch.Rathsrigg Solitaire.
Stay tuned for the more developed website coming soon!
